Uninsured Chevy Truck Rolls Over After Crash Into Uninsured Dodge Stratus

A white Chevrolet Silverado rolled over after crashing into a red Dodge Stratus at the intersection of South Archer Street and Bryan Street Monday afternoon. Neither vehicle has insured.

According to traffic investigator and San Angelo Police Officer Palmer, the Chevy truck was westbound on Bryan and failed to yield the right-of-way in an open intersection.

The Chevy rolled over due to the crash and the passenger was injured, according to Palmer. The passenger was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

In addition to writing a citation for failure to yield to the driver of the Chevy, Palmer said both drivers were cited for not having insurance. The driver of the Status was driving without a valid license and was also cited. Finally, the mother of the driver of the Stratus, who is also the owner of the car, was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive her car.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m.

Until these uninsured and unlicensed drivers are arrested and their vehicles impounded the situation will not change and seems to be getting worse. Mere citations are not a deterrent to the scofflaws.

Do you honestly think that someone who refuses to pay $50 a month for insurance will just cough up $1000+ in fines? Uninsured drivers should be arrested on scene and held until there is some proof of financial responsibility. It is absolutely no different than someone robbing your house, because of their negligence, you are forced to pay to return to normalcy.

Well, after issuing a no insurance citation, the auto should be impounded. Released to the individual on the title/registration, only after showing current proof of insurance. If not claimed after 60-90 days, then the vehicle should be auctioned off.
