SUV Nailed by Deer Blind Falling Off Trailer on U.S. 277

A white SUV was hit by something falling off the vehicle in front of it. It looks like it was something that fell out of the back of a trailer being towed by the vehicle that the SUV was behind.

There are no major injuries that we see, but the white Ford SUV sustained major damage to its front end. The SUV had several children as passengers.

The crash happened near Reece Road on U.S. 277 south of San Angelo just before 3 p.m. The highway has all lanes except one closed as of 3:11 p.m. Traffic is moving through slowly.

The San Angelo Fire Department and EMS, along with the Tom Green County Sheriff, are tending the scene.

Update 3:20 p.m.

It looks like a deer blind fell off the trailer.

Update 3:41 p.m.

The SUV and the truck towing the trailer with the deer blind were traveling opposite directions on U.S. 277. DPS issued multiple traffic violations to both drivers in each vehicle. One was to the truck/trailer driver for improperly securing a load. The driver of the SUV received two citations for not having the children in the SUV properly secured.

Some idiots deer season just got a whole lot more expensive.... Not only for costing him to buy another deer blind, it cost him his season lease money, guns, ammo, food/drink and travel expenses, now he just bought somebody a brand new SUV on top of all that....

Evertytime I talk with someone about the need for them having higher liability limits they balk - I can't imagine. No one ever imagines they will create the problem but as we ready every single day it happens. You cannot have enough sometimes but at least you can do what you can to protect your assets by being property insured. Paying for the loss of property is bad, you can't pay for loss of life. When you get sued your financial future is at risk (wage garnishment, assets you own now and in the future going to pay off a judgment). And if you don't know how to properly secure a load - don't haul it! I see trucks all the time with beds, TV's and all kinds of junk just piled in the back of a pickup not secured at all - these people are putting everyone else on the road in jeopardy.
