A black Mazda 2 turning onto Sherwood Way from the Walgreen's parking lot didn't see the westbound traffic at just after 7 p.m. Sunday and caused a crash, police said. The 911 call was recorded at 7:16 p.m. Police called it a Failure to Yield the Right-of-Way.
All of the Mazda’s airbags deployed as the custom full-sized Ford van plowed into the Mazda's side as the Mazda pulled out into the northernmost lane of traffic. Police said that the driver of the little black car just didn’t see the van.
The van’s driver had no time to react and said she was stunned, her mind working in slow motion in a moment of temporal distortion. The van took around 200 feet to stop. Meanwhile the Mazda 2 spun around two times on the main roadway from the impact. Sherwood Way was blocked for about 45 minutes as the crash scene was cleared.
No one was hurt seriously. Police said that each vehicle had only one occupant, each driver. Both said that they preferred to transport themselves to the hospital if necessary.
The Mazda 2 model is likely manufactured in Japan. According to mazda.com, one million of the 1.3 million Mazda cars sold every year are made in Japan.
