Chevy Truck Crashes into Pole, Takes Out Main Street at 3rd Traffic Lights

San Angelo police traffic officer Brian Bylsma investigated a single-vehicle crash at the corner of Main Street and 3rd Street. A white 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was southbound on Main Street when the elderly driver experienced a medical issue of some kind, said Bylsma. He veered off the roadway and hit a light pole. The crash knocked the traffic lights at the intersection out. The driver's family transported the driver to the hospital for an evaluation.

City work crews will be working on the traffic lights for the next couple of hours to repair them, said Bylsma.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags did deploy, Bylsma said. "When I got here, he was out walking around," he said. Bylsma said that because the crash involves a possible medical issue, and that it was a single vehicle accident, that he will not issue any citations.
