A man failed a field sobriety test after police reponded to a report of a crash into a utiltity pole at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. This incident happened near the intersection of 11th Street and North Oakes Street.
At the scene by the time we arrived, police were performing a field sobriety test on the suspected driver. He failed, and police put him into cuffs. The police were seen pulling out what appeared to be items of interest, perhaps drugs or drug paraphernalia, out of the pockets of the driver, too.
After the Explorer cut the utility pole in half, the vehicle came to a rest in the yard of a residence, after hitting a tree.
There was one passenger in the vehicle with the intoxicated driver. No other vehicles were involved. The passenger has a minor injury to his hand. The driver did not appear to be hurt.
According to police, the driver was charged with Failure to Control Speed and misdemeanor drug charges. Police did not reveal what type of drugs and they are not releasing the name of the driver. The passenger was not arrested.
