WATCH: 71 Years Later
ELDORADO, TX -- Following Friday's 27-14 win over D'Hanis, the Eldorado Eagles not only clinched a spot in the third round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs but became the first team in program history in 71 years to win a second-round game.
Since last Friday emotions and memories have been stirred up in Eldorado as many remember back to 1950 when the Eagles won a District 10-B championship, defeated Marfa 28-0 in the Bi-District Round, and then ended the season by beating Eden in the Regional Championship Round 27-14.
During that time in the postseason in Eldorado's classification teams could only go as far as the Regional Round, unlike the present where teams can compete into mid-December for a state title.
Looking back to the 1950 season members of the Eagles team, John Phillips, Jimmy Doyle, and Lynn Griffin reminisce about the history and memories made while sharing their thoughts about Eldorado's current history-making team.
On Friday Eldorado looks to write another chapter in the program's history book when they take on Fall Citys in Austin for a chance to become the first team in program history to win a third-round postseason game.
