#COVER1 Mix: Wall's Stable of Backs Keeps Dream of State Title Alive
SNYDER, TX -- The Wall Hawks dominated once again this week. Except this time it was against a top tier program like Wall, much admired in the press, the Shallowater Mustangs.
Wall started by kicking the ball to the Mustangs. Shallowater was able to get one first down on the drive but it was on a fourth down conversion. They punted on the next set of chains.
Wall’s first possession was nearly the same after only moving the chains once and having to punt the ball back to Shallowater.
The next drive consisted of a Shallowater three and out which gave the Hawks great field position. After the stop, RB Dominic Garcia for the Hawks ran for a 31-yard touchdown. This gave the Hawks a 7-0 lead.
Two plays after the Wall kickoff, the defense was able to sack Shallowater’s QB Dylan Kelly which caused a fumble. Wall was able to scoop up the fumble and start their offense on the Mustang’s 11-yard line.
It didn’t take but three plays for the Hawks to punch it in as QB Drew Morrison got his first rushing touchdown of the game. This score capped off the quarter with the Hawks up 14-0.
The next score of the ball game came near the 4:00 minute mark of the half. Shallowater’s QB Kelly was able to find WR Maverick Byran for a 33 yard touchdown. The kicker shanked the Field Goal which made the score 14-6.
The next drive wall started on their 40-yard line and pounded the football. They ran the ball 6 times with Morrison and Garcia. Garcia got the nod for the goal line play. His touchdown made the score at halftime 21-6.
Wall started with the ball in the second half and was forced to punt. Luckily their punt was muffed by a Mustang and the Hawks were able to jump on the ball near the 10-yard line. This time Morrison got the goal line touchdown. Wall lead at this point 28-6.
Wall then kicked off and their defense came in the game near midfield. This is when the Hawks D-line sacked Shallowater’s Kelly which caused another fumble. Wall was unable to capitalize off the run and the score at the end of the third it was 28-6.
Three plays into the fourth Quarter, Morrison got his third TD and put the nail in Shallowater's coffin bringing it to 35-6 Wall.
Wall's backups were then placed in the game. This is when the Mustangs had a little comeback. In the final two minutes, they were able to score twice bringing the final score to 35-20.
Drew Morrison was 2-5 with 62 yards passing, 14 carries 63 yards and three touchdowns.
Dominic Garcia had 12 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
