#COVER1 Bobcats Preview: Old Rivalry With Abilene Revives Memories of Little Southwest Conference

SAN ANGLEO, TX - Since the early 1900s, San Angelo and Abilene have met in one of the biggest rivalry games in West Texas.

Billy Joe Mullins the starting quarterback from the 1959 Bobcat team reminisced about how his Central team aimed for the War Birds all season long that led to erasing a nine-year losing streak against Abilene while putting to bed the Eagles 35-game consecutive winning streak.

From the Abilene prospective the Eagles all-time winningest head coach Steve Warren (175-68, won 2009 Class 5A DII State Championship) talked about his storied history with the Bobcats that goes back to one of the most iconic coaches in Texas high school football history Gary Gaines and what it would mean to bring back the Little Southwest Conference.

The 2019 showdown between the Bobcats and Eagles on Friday night marks the 88th meeting between the storied programs. This week's #COVER1 Bobcats Preview is presented by Heart of Texas Ford in Brady, TX and Twisted Root.
