Brent Davis Press Conference: "Trinity is Outstanding and the Rest of Us are Above Average"."
SAN ANGELO, TX — Coach Brent Davis started his weekly press conference by breaking down his team’s performance on Friday. He was pleased with the way his kids played in the first half and the fourth quarter saying, “It was a thrilling win. We got out on them quick and really played extremely well in the first half on both sides of the ball. [We] held a really explosive offense to ten points and scored on every drive we had [in the first half]… I was real proud of the fourth quarter [after Weatherford came back].
The coach also acknowledged the many mistakes after halftime that helped the Kangaroos tie the game. “They got the ball first and got a score. That was alright because it wasn’t unexpected, really, but we needed to match them to stay up a couple scores. In the third quarter we made a ton of mistakes on offense. We were playing good defense. That’s as good of an offense as we’ll see, and we were playing good defense against them. We just needed to match them. We had some pre-snap penalties, and we had a bad snap that kept us from doing that.”
Davis went on to talk more about the defense’s performance and how impressed he was by it. “One of our goals is to get three turkeys in a game, turkeys are three and outs, and we got three on these guys and that’s something. I mean it’s not easy to stop somebody like Ken Seals… We’re young over there, we’re learning. Our front has been pretty decent, our backend has been suspect at times, but I thought they all played well. We got to the football. We had eleven hats on the ball quite a bit and that’s what makes a difference. We’re not going to overpower people or we’re not going to use our athleticism to win games. We’ve got to all do it together as a team and that’s what we did.”
Looking ahead to undefeated Euless Trinity, Davis touted them as the best team in the district. With three offensive linemen over 400 pounds, the Trojans have overpowered opponents with long, run-heavy offensive drives and a very talented defense. “I would say Trinity is outstanding and the rest of us are above average,” Davis commented.
It will certainly be a tough test for the Bobcats. Central lost 70-28 at home to them last year, and Trinity is 5-0 coming off of a 42-7 win against LD Bell.
Watch above to hear Davis discuss Malachi Brown's performance, the challenges Trinity poses, and the importance of taking advantage of opportunities.
