Brent Davis Press Conference: Bobcats See a Glimpse of What DFW Will Offer in Cedar Park
SAN ANGELO, TX — Central Head Coach Brent Davis held his weekly press conference on Monday and gave us his thoughts on the Bobcats' victory in week two and what challenges lie ahead against a fearsome Cedar Park team.
One of his biggest takeaways from last week was how his team minimized mistakes. Central committed thirteen fewer penalties against Del Rio, 5, than they did against Shoemaker, 18. Quarterback Malachi Brown also tightened things up and threw only one interception versus his four against Shoemaker.
This week will prove to be a tougher challenge, however, as a 5A school from Austin comes to town. Cedar Park has won two state championships in the past seven years, and is coming off a disappointing 8-4 campaign that saw the Timberwolves not crowned at champs in their division for the first time since 2014. Led by Louisiana Tech commit Ben Bell at nose guard, the "Black Rain" will be one of the better defenses the Bobcats face all season.
Davis is eager for the challenge and expects his team to grow and get better regardless of a win or loss.
The coach also discussed the growth of senior defensive back Tristan Lopez and a young running back corps. Lopez has made big plays this season and Davis expects him to bolster the defense with his leadership, experience, and ability. As for the RB's, the inexperience is slowing trickling away. Kris Jackson, Cameron Sarzosa, and Ashton Hartsfield have all received reps in game situations and continue to improve as the weeks go by.
