Local Sheriff's Office Sergeant Defuses Gas Station Incident by Paying for Stranded Man’s Fuel

SAN ANGELO, TX — What started as a reported terroristic threat at a San Angelo gas station ended with a handshake and a sergeant paying out of pocket to help a stranded motorist.

The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about threats overheard at the station, prompting multiple deputies to intervene.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered the situation was a misunderstanding—an upset man was unable to get gas due to a malfunctioning pump and a lack of funds to reach another station.

After confirming no crime had occurred, Sgt. Rook escorted the man back to the gas station and paid for several gallons of fuel himself.

The Sheriff’s Office later praised Rook’s actions, noting that he sought no recognition, only helping someone in need.
