USDA Declares 10 Texas Counties as Disaster Areas for Excessive Heat and High Winds

TOM GREEN COUNTY, TX - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated ten Texas counties as primary natural disaster areas due to excessive heat and high winds that occurred between June 1 and October 31, 2024.

This declaration allows farmers and ranchers in affected areas to access emergency loans to recover from significant losses.

Producers in Bailey, Castro, Childress, Deaf Smith, Hale, Hansford, Lubbock, Randall, Runnels, and Swisher counties are eligible to apply for these loans. The assistance can cover essential recovery expenses, such as replacing equipment or livestock, reorganizing operations, or refinancing debts.

Additionally, farmers and ranchers in contiguous counties—including Tom Green, Concho, Coke, and Taylor—are also eligible for assistance. The designation extends to select counties in New Mexico and Oklahoma, including Curry, Roosevelt, and Harmon.

The deadline to apply for disaster loans is August 19, 2025.

For more information, affected producers can visit the USDA Service Center or use tools on farmers.gov, such as the Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool.
