USDA Designates Tom Green, Other Texas Counties as Natural Disaster Areas

SAN ANGELO, TX - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated Tom Green County, along with other counties in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, as natural disaster areas due to excessive heat and high winds.

The designation, announced on Dec. 23, enables farmers and ranchers in affected areas to apply for emergency loans.

Primary counties in Texas include Bailey, Castro, Childress, Deaf Smith, Hale, Hansford, Lubbock, Randall, Runnels, and Swisher. Tom Green is among the contiguous counties also eligible for assistance, along with others such as Taylor, Nolan, and Concho.

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) offers emergency loans to help producers replace equipment, recover livestock losses, or refinance farm operations. The application deadline is Aug. 19, 2025. Loan approvals will depend on loss extent, available security, and repayment ability.

Farmers can access more information and resources through the USDA’s Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool or by contacting their local USDA Service Center.
