Unemployment Rates Up for Tom Green County in May

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - Tom Green County reported a slight increase in unemployment rates for the month of May.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Tom Green County’s unemployment rate increased from 3.0 percent in April 2024 to 3.3 percent last month.

The county’s number of unemployed residents rose from 1,700 in April to 1,883 in May.

Despite the increase in the unemployment rate, overall employment numbers and the total civilian labor force showed a positive trend over the past year. Employment increased from 54,204 in May 2023 to 55,236 in May 2024, while the labor force grew from 56,143 to 57,119 over the same period.

Compared to the previous year, the county’s unemployment rate decreased from 3.5 percent in May 2023, with the number of unemployed residents dropping from 1,939.

The state’s jobless rate remained unchanged at 4 percent.
