Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Enhances Tactical Training

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is undergoing training aimed at equipping deputies with advanced defensive tactics. 

The initiative, spearheaded by Sheriff Hanna, is designed to ensure law enforcement officials are better prepared to de-escalate situations, minimize injuries, and effectively handle resistive and aggressive subjects.

“We constantly work toward being better equipped and prepared to properly de-escalate incidents while also increasing our skills, knowledge, and abilities to safely take resistive and/or aggressive subjects into custody with fewer injuries to all involved,” the sheriff’s office stated.

With that, Sheriff Hanna approved the agency to begin training the Defensive Tactics program through “Gracie Survival Tactics.” 

According to information, the program has now grown into a regular quarterly training day. This system is built to give Deputies self-confidence in the skills and techniques within, which results in far less striking and weapon use during a high-stress incident.

“The instructors put a lot of time and effort into preparing and putting on each course, and it is really starting to show,” the Sheriff’s office stated. “Your deputies’ and jailers’ skills are rapidly improving, and we have already experienced a couple of incidents where those skills have resulted in no injuries while arresting resistive and aggressive suspects.”
