Tragic Murder-Suicide Involved a Beloved Christoval ISD Parent and Substitute Teacher

CHRISTOVAL, TX — A substitute teacher at Christoval ISD is dead in an apparent murder-suicide that happened early Thursday morning in San Antonio.

According to WOAI, Lisa Browning Theroux was found badly injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the backyard of Theroux’s parent’s home in northeast San Antonio. Theroux’s parents, 84-year-old James Robert Browning and 79-year-old Elizabeth Mosel Browning, were found dead by police inside the home.

WOAI reported that Theroux was on life support but police this morning reported she had succumbed to her injury.

Neighbors told WOAI’s reporters that Theroux would visit her parents from the San Angelo area frequently. The Brownings were not in good health, neighbors said.

Theroux lived in the Christoval ISD area with her husband Rick and her two girls who attend Christoval schools, Superintendent David Walker said. One child just graduated and the other will be a junior at Christoval High in the fall.

“Ms. Theroux was employed by Christoval ISD as a substitute teacher from December 1, 2016 until she resigned on June 10, 2020. She last served as a substitute teacher on May 24, 2019. She was also a dedicated leader for the Christoval ISD Band Boosters program. Her contributions to the district will not be soon forgotten,” Walker said.

Theroux was 50 years old.

She stated that substitute teaching allowed her income while she pursued an “informal re-education on nutritional ketosis as a way of eating to reverse metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, overweight/obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, and prevent many other health problems as I discern how to balance helping others with these nutritional revelations (really old knowledge that we have re-discovered) and being an attentive and involved mom to two very active teenagers,” she announced on her LinkedIn profile.
