SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County Judge Steve Floyd Tuesday morning reminded residents that while fireworks are not banned on private property outside the city limits, individuals can be held legally liable for any damage or fires started by fireworks.
During the regular weekly meeting of the Tom Green County Commissioners Court, Floyd announced that the Court didn’t ban fireworks in the county because the drought index didn’t reach the level necessary for a ban this year. There is a countywide ban on outdoor burning because of the extremely dry conditions.
Commissioners Tuesday discussed lifting the ban, but said there hasn’t been enough significant rainfall to alieve the dangerous conditions and temperatures continue to remain above average and the relative humidity remains low.
Fireworks are banned inside the San Angelo city limits and at Lake Nasworthy, Twin Buttes and O.C. Fisher reservoirs.
Pct. 4 commissioner Bill Ford says while fireworks are not banned, individuals should be extremely cautious because of the extremely dry conditions.
Residents can enjoy commercial fireworks displays like the annual Pops Concert tonight at the River Stage, the Christoval Fireworks display in Pugh Park Wednesday night and the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association Fireworks display Wednesday night.
Judge Floyd and the Commissioners Court urged residents to be extremely cautious while using fireworks to celebrate Independence Day.
