TxDOT to Add Passing Lanes Along U.S. 67 in Mertzon Area

The Texas Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that a construction project, which will add 18 passing lanes along a busy stretch of U.S. Route 67 north and south of Mertzon, started this week.

According to a TxDOT press release, the $30-million-dollar contract awarded to Reece Albert Inc., will add alternate passing lanes along the 41-mile stretch of U.S. 67 between the Reagan County and Tom Green County lines. It will tie-in to the recently completed construction project that has added passing lanes along U.S. 67 starting at the Reagan County line and extending to Big Lake.

Officials stated that traffic will not be impacted immediately; however, motorists will see concrete barriers placed in the coming weeks adjacent to the current travel lanes. Reece Albert will be working on the extension of drainage culverts and other structures along U.S. 67 through the winter.

Additionally, construction of the passing lanes will not begin until spring. The entire project is expected to be completed by Jan. 2018.
