Man Jailed for Disregarding Barricade and Fleeing Officer Sunday

 

Gregory Lee Smith, 56, was put behind bars at 2:36 a.m. on Sunday on charges of fleeing a police officer, DWI third or more and disregarding a barricade. The incident leading to Smith's arrest occurred on Saturday night, when he plowed through a barricade at Campus and Beauregard, where a young family had just been the victim of a hit and run. Police captured Smith after a short pursuit, where he admitted to drinking and driving. 

Keeping Smith company in the county jail Sunday were five others charged with DWI, one of which's booking report bears the notation that his blood-alcohol content was >/= .15. Three more were jailed for public intoxication on Sunday, as well as one for DUI.

The bookings report also reflects two theft charges, three pot charges, two assaults, one resisting arrest and one exhibition of acceleration. 

Twenty-three inmates were booked into the county jail Sunday, while 20 were released.
