Sheriff Identifies ATV Crash Victims and Circumstances of the Fatal Rollover

A 12-year-old girl driving an ATV was killed in a crash on a hunting ranch north of San Angelo at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tom Green County Sheriff David Jones identified the deceased as Anayavilet Almazan, 12, of Midland. Jones confirmed that she was driving the 2011 Polaris Ranger with seating for six northbound on the main ranch road. They were headed back to the lodge when the rollover crash happened. Witnesses said that the driver lost control. The Ranger rolled over at least one time, the Sheriff said.

The other passengers of the Ranger were Victor Villa, 28; Caesar Almazan, 20; Arnulfo Villa, 22; Veaney Villa, 7; David Munoz, 4; Abigail Villa, 3; and Yazlyn Almazan, 7. All were from Midland.

Anavavilet was pronounced dead at Shannon Medical Center shortly after arrival.

Passengers Veaney Villa, 7, and David Munoz, 4, were also rushed to Shannon after the crash.

The San Angelo Fire Department EMS and Grape Creek EMS and VFD tended to the victims.  San Angelo EMS ambulances transported all of the victims to Shannon. Shannon’s helicopter ambulance, Airmed 1, was also dispatched to the scene, but circumstances did not make its use advantageous.

The crash happened about ¼ mile inside the El Escondrijo Ranch. The property is owned by the Llano City Schools, but signs at the entrance suggest that Basic Energy Services operates the ranch. Tax records indicate that Basic owns the structures on the property, but not the land itself. The entrance is at the 7700 block of U.S. 87 North, south of Grape Creek.
