Severe Thunderstorm Hits North San Angelo

A line of thunderstorms is rolling from the north and the west and has hit the north side of town with golf ball-sized hail around the 29th Street Walmart. 

The LIVE! team was following a band of storm chasers, the 3BMETEO Tornado Tour 2014 from Italy, who said 'there's not enough oomph in the storm to cause a tornado', however high winds and a sheet of rain have swept the city to a background of thunder and the city's emergency sirens.

The tornado team and the LIVE! team are posted up under an awning waiting for the hail to pass. The storm has not yet reached the Dove Creek area, and may miss parts of the town.

Readers report hail by the coliseum and at Goodfellow Air Force Base.

According to the National Weather Service, a flash flood warning is in effect until 12:30 a.m. Visibility is low in many parts of town and water is standing on many streets.

Avoid low water crossings and park your vehicles in covered areas, if possible.

The following streets are currently under water. Please be advised this list is based only on where we've driven and excludes other areas in town:

• Main St. between Harris and Pulliam is flooded
• Pecan and 3rd St. is under water
• Low water crossing by Central High School
• Sourth Irving and Ave. Q is a river

Update 10:15 p.m.

The rain has stopped in downtown San Angelo. Rain is still falling on the south side of town. Emergency responders are blocking off as many treacherous areas as possible, however motorists should utilize common sense and not attempt to drive down streets with standing water on them.

The National Weather Service has reported that San Angelo has reached 7.82" of rain for the year, putting us above normal averages!
