Myers Drug Acquired by Food King, Pharmacy Services Move to New Location
SAN ANGELO, TX – Myers Drug, a long-standing pharmacy in San Angelo, has transitioned to new ownership under Food King, a regional grocery chain.
While the Myers Drug building has been sold to Thieman Real Estate Holdings, pharmacy operations have moved to the Food King location at 2 S. Main St.
Luis Urteaga, who was the general manager of Myer's is now the VP of Pharmacy Business Development and Strategy at all Food King and Lowe's pharmacies, said that the acquisition preserves the specialized compounding services Myers was known for.
“Myers was a specialist in making medication from scratch. We’re doing that now in Food King. We built a better lab thanks to Food King and all the company and their support, but my team is over there now. We still oversee the same compounding, same quality, same relationships with the providers, same everything—now just out of a different building,” Urteaga said.
Urteaga confirmed that Myers’ compounding pharmacy operations have fully relocated to Food King, but long-term care and hospice services are still operating out of the former Myers Drug building.
“Myers is still open. We’re still doing long-term care and hospice. We’re working on some things with the Myers building, Myers licensing. We’ll take care of long-term care and hospice right there,” Urteaga said.
As part of the transition, Food King Pharmacy is introducing Dispill, a pre-packaged medication system for home health patients.
“We are the only ones that do it in town,” Urteaga said. “So if you’re a Dispill patient looking for a home so we could take care of you, we can.”
The Dispill system organizes medications into pre-sorted blister packs, labeled by time and date, to assist patients with medication management.
“You just take them as one little pouch,” Urteaga said.
The pharmacy also provides medication delivery for Dispill patients at no charge.
Urteaga assured customers that the pharmacy team remains largely intact, though the front-end gift and boutique section was not included in the transition.
