San Angelo’s pOpshelf Store Closing as Part of Nationwide Shutdowns

SAN ANGELO, TX — The pOpshelf store in San Angelo is closing amid a nationwide shutdown of locations by its parent company, Dollar General.

A sign inside the store announced the closing sale, with discounts up to 50% off and all sales being final. Another sign on the door indicated revised store hours.

The shutdown follows Dollar General’s recent announcement that it will close 96 Dollar General stores and 45 pOpshelf locations across the U.S. in early 2025. The company stated in its fourth-quarter earnings report that the decision is part of a “store portfolio optimization review” to evaluate store performance and operational conditions.

pOpshelf, launched by Dollar General in 2020, was designed to offer a “fun, affordable, and stress-free shopping experience” focused on seasonal home decor, party goods, and household items. The brand has more than 220 locations in 21 states. Following the planned closures, approximately 175 pOpshelf stores will remain.

The San Angelo location, at 4151 Sunset Dr., is among those affected, though no official closure date has been announced. Dollar General has not released a full list of affected locations and has not responded to media requests for further details.
