SAN ANGELO, TX — Shannon AirMed is celebrating 30 years of air medical transport in the Concho Valley region. Its inaugural flight was on April 15, 1994. This milestone marks a momentous and successful asset to the San Angelo region.
Shannon AirMed is a joint effort between Shannon Medical Center and Med-Trans Corporation. Since inception, AirMed1, a Bell 407 aircraft, has provided faster access to vital healthcare for 25 West Texas counties and hospitals within a 150 mile radius of San Angelo. In recent years, the program successfully expanded its service to include a King Air 90 fixed wing aircraft to serve a broader scope of west Texas and eastern New Mexico.
“We are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers, dedicated crew members, and supportive partners who have been essential to our success throughout this journey,” said Oscar Luz, AirMed Program Director. “This anniversary signifies not only the years of hard work and determination but also the immense potential that lies ahead as we continue to elevate industry standards.”
AirMed’s provides prehospital emergency care with a dedication to quality and safety. Their focus is on the needs of the communities they serve. In addition to emergency transport, the AirMed team provides outreach and education courses to hospitals and EMS providers throughout rural West Texas.
In celebration of this significant milestone, Shannon AirMed will host an anniversary event on April 26, where old pilots and crew members will gather to reflect on Airmed's history and celebrate crew members and partners who have been an integral part of the program over the past three decades.
