SAN ANGELO, TX — The Buttercup Cafe initially faced closure near the end of December but new owners bought the place and the local favorite remained open. On December 23, 2024, the cafe announced on Facebook that it would be closing but was unexpectedly saved by a husband and wife who are long-time residents of Christoval.
"We will be open again on the 26th," Buttercup assured its patrons. "Watch for further announcements as we work out the details of the sale."
In an earlier Facebook post, the cafe shared, "With heavy hearts, we find ourselves at the end of a chapter. We have spent the last year looking for the next owner(s) to shepherd Buttercup into the future." However, a subsequent update brought unexpected joy:
"Well, this is awkward… remember when we announced that Buttercup would close on the 23rd? Well, we have some good news for you, we take that closure back! After we made that announcement, an interested party came forward because they want to take the reins."
Randa and Charles Jolly, longtime residents of Chrisrtoval and established business owners, emerged as the saviors of the local business. The Jolly family not only acquired the business but also took ownership of the building, prompting a slight name modification to Buttercup All-Day Cafe.
Rachel Haralson shared on Facebook, "Congratulations Jolly Family! Here's to a locally owned business with deep roots in Tom Green County! So drop by, say hi, hang out, and enjoy a true coffee experience among friends. Better yet, give me a call! I'd love to meet you there and buy you a cup of coffee."
Buttercup All-Day Cafe is set to offer a variety of coffees, teas, breakfast, and lunch options, ensuring the continuation of a cherished local establishment under new and enthusiastic ownership. Stop by and say hello to the Jolly's as they continue to serve San Angelo as a "Mom-and-Pop," coffee shop.
