SAN ANGELO, TX — Moving to a new city is a way of life for Salvation Army officers and their families. As dedicated pastors and leaders, Salvation Army officers serve wherever their skills are most needed. Majors Alfonso and Adriana Martinez have transferred from The Salvation Army in San Antonio to San Angelo and will assume leadership and oversight of local programs and services immediately.
Officer moves typically take place in June although circumstances occasionally make it necessary for changes in leadership at other times during the year. Majors Angel & Valerie Calderon have served in San Angelo for a little more than two years and during that time have established a flourishing Victory Sports ministry. Unfortunately, serious health concerns have forced the Calderons to take sick leave, resulting in the arrival of Majors Martinez.
“We know that God has great plans for The Salvation Army in San Angelo and we are excited to be appointed here,” said Major Alfonso Martinez, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army in San Angelo. “We want to say thank you to Majors Calderon for their vision and leadership and pray God’s blessing them for the future. My wife and I are ready to get to work and are looking forward to working alongside our dedicated staff and volunteers and getting out in the community as we head into the busy Christmas season. We look forward to getting to know the community and invite you stop by The Salvation Army and say hello.”
Majors Martinez have previously served as Salvation Army leaders in several Texas cities including Harlingen, San Antonio, Austin, Plainview, and El Paso in addition to Atlanta, Georgia.
“We arrived in San Angelo just in time to attend The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Golf Tournament which provided the opportunity to meet lots of people at the golf course,” said Martinez. “We are so appreciative for this community’s support of The Salvation Army and look forward to meeting everyone as we seek to serve the needs of San Angelo. The Red Kettle campaign and Angel Tree program will be here before we know it and we have lots of volunteer and partnership opportunities available at The Salvation Army. If you’re looking for a way to give back and make a difference, we have an opportunity just for you!”
The Salvation Army in San Angelo is located at 34 W. 3rd St. The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for more than 130 years in the United States.
