AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced it will be reopening offices statewide Monday, Sept.11, with some having extended hours. Service teams are working to rebook appointments that were canceled as the offices had to shutdown all week last week after software update issues.
The DPS is asking anyone who had an appointment canceled but hasn't been rebooked yet, to email [email protected].
According to reports, the DPS initially closed offices Friday, Sept. 1 for a system upgrade and it planned on reopening them Tuesday, Sept. 5. However, the department shared that "despite prior testing, a capacity issue caused by the upgrade overloaded the system and services became unavailable." DPS said no security issues were reported.
Driver's license appointments continued to be canceled at most locations and access to online services continued to be derailed throughout last week.
TDPS said the outage was impacting all driver's license services, including renewing or replacing a license or identification card, obtaining a driver's record and verifying eligibility both at offices across the state and online.
"The department is working to identify the issue, which is related to the driver license system update that took place over the weekend, and get it fixed as quickly as possible," TxDPS said in a statement. "We apologize for the inconvenience."
