SAN ANGELO, TX – A new, high-end steakhouse is planned at an historic downtown San Angelo location according to information presented at the San Angelo City Council meeting Tuesday.
During the San Angelo City Council Meeting on Aug. 15, 2023, the council approved plans to remodel an existing historic house into a top steakhouse in downtown San Angelo.
The item was originally supposed to be presented to the Design and Historic Review Commission. However, due to the fact that two members were on the board, the item was pushed onto the City Council's plate.
The location of the restaurant will be 215 W. Twohig. The building has been a home for decades, but now the home has sold and it will be the Copper Bull Steakhouse and Jessie Lee Tavern. The restaurant and event center will feature the restaurant in the home and an event center in a building the owners plan to add on.
Concerns voiced during the council's discussion didn't have much to do with how the building looked. Instead, council members were concerned about ADA compliance and parking.
Both of these topics are addressed when applying for a building permit, but since this is just the design commission approval, those did not have to be provided. Downtown San Angelo's Del Velasquez was more than happy to answer those questions.
For ADA compliance, there will be a ramp installed on the east side of the building, and for parking, the restaurant has partnered with a business across the street to share parking. To top it off, the restaurant will provide valet services, which will likely solve both problems.
The council approved the item unopposed. Now the Copper Bull Steakhouse will move into the building permit phase.
