SAN ANGELO – There is a bank of Tesla Electric Vehicle charging stations being installed at the new San Angelo H-E-B grocery store at 5502 Sherwood Way this week.
The EV chargers are located in the parking lot near Newk's. Workers could be seen installing the chargers Wednesday afternoon.
According to H-E-B, a handful of Central Market and H-E-B stores already have fast EV charging stations. The company completed a supercharger at the Hutto store in March 2022, and they are being added them to three new stores in the DFW area: Frisco, Plano and McKinney. H-E-B says they are committed to increasing the accessibility of these chargers with a plan to install chargers to an additional 40 stores by 2025. They are currently working with a variety of suppliers to determine the next installations, so that EV drivers never have to worry about your range.
According to Forbes Magazine, the Department of Transportation’s new Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grant program, created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and running for five years, is part of efforts to open 500,000 new EV charging stations nationwide. It includes $700 million available in fiscal 2022 and 2023 to get chargers and alternative fuel stations, including hydrogen, up and running in urban and rural areas. A specific focus is getting more public chargers built in underserved regions, said Christopher Coes, the DOT’s assistant secretary for transportation policy.
“All Americans, regardless of where they live, should have the opportunity to benefit from the lower operating costs, reduced maintenance needs and improved performance that EVs can provide,” Coes told reporters. “Achieving our long-term climate and equity goals requires the equitable deployment of EV infrastructure.”
The new funds are in addition to $5 billion already earmarked for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, or NEVI, program to build chargers and clean fuel stations on federal and state highways and roads. The new grants are intended to complement and fill in any gaps in charging infrastructure, according to the Transportation Department.

EVs cost more, have less range than gasoline powered vehicles and cause more ecological damage to the environment mining for the required minerals for batteries. When a battery needs to be replaced the cost is substantially more than replacing a gas powered engine. Might as well buy a new vehicle. Battery won't take a good charge in cold weather not that we have that problem. The electricity to charge doesn't appear out of nowhere. The grid will be stressed during heavy usage especially in the summer months. If you don't mind stopping every 150 miles or so to sit for 6 hours to recharge and don't travel much it might be ok. Have deep pockets and emergency backup if you do.

PermalinkIt's beautiful watching EV drivers fret when they're told what bad choices their vehicles are financially and in respect to the environment. LOL
