San Angelo City Council Will Consider Bids for Howard St. Reconstruction Tuesday

SAN ANGELO – The City of San Angelo will consider reconstructing Howard Street as the next major roadway replacement project during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The Howard St. project comes on the heals of reconstruction of MLK, Bell St., Southwest Blvd. and College Hills Blvd.

College Hills reconstruction is currently underway and the intersection of Sunset Dr. and College Hills will be closed this week to accommodate construction work.

The Council will consider awarding the Howard Street Roadway Project to Reece Albert, Inc. in the amount of $7,435,902.89 and authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute all related documents

The City published a Request for Bids on April 6, 2023 and one submission was received on May 18, 2023. The Project includes paving, sidewalk, and signal improvements along Howard Street from Glenna Drive to Sherwood Way. Approximately 1.75 miles of roadway will receive a mill and overlay of the existing asphalt as well as concrete pavement, sidewalk and ADA improvements, bike lanes, and signal improvements at limited intersections. Reece Albert Inc. was the only responsive bidder.

The City posted another Request for Bids for utility replacement along Howard St. on March 9, 2023 and two submissions were received on May 8, 2023. The Project includes the replacement of water and sewer utilities along Howard Street from Sherwood Way to Edmund Boulevard. This project includes all water, wastewater, and other associated appurtenances within the project limits in preparation of the road being rehabilitated. Darnell Construction, LLC was the overall low bidder at $3,560,732.60

The San Angelo City Council meets at 8:30 Tuesday morning in council chambers at the McNease Convention Center.  That meeting is open to the public.
