San Angelo – Mathis Field terminal will be undergoing seven to 10 days of brief construction as a CT X-ray scanner is installed. The scanner will be used to screen carry-on luggage at the security checkpoint, allowing travelers to keep most items inside their bags, including electronics, food and certain liquids. Construction began Monday, April 10.
Passengers should arrive to the airport at least two hours prior to scheduled departure times during the construction period to allow for ample time to get through security.
The CT scanners will provide better detection of bag contents, which should result in fewer bag checks and a more efficient screening process.
This upgrade is part of system improvements by the Transportation Security Administration.
