SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Appraisal District is seeking new members for its Appraisal Review Board. The board hears appeals of an owner’s property’s appraised value. Chief Appraiser Tyler Johnson said that with the current onslaught of higher appraised values has created a bottleneck for timely reviews of his office’s appeals. He said he was looking at creating two boards to take on the demand.
The ARB is a group of private citizens authorized to hear appeals and determine if protests are valid for ad valorem tax purposes. The ARB is a separate authoritative body and its members are not employees of the Appraisal District. The term of service for each board member is two years.
Applicants must be residents of Tom Green County for at least two years, have never been employed by or served as an officer or director of the Appraisal District, and must meet other requirements in Texas Property Code Section 6.412.
The boards meet from May until July each year. There may be supplemental days required in other months of the year. The board members are paid a per diem of approximately $200 per day.
Serving on the ARB is an opportunity to see how property values are determined in the county (and member school districts) while serving our community.
To apply, download the instructions and the application form and hand deliver them to the Tom Green County Appraisal District, 2302 Pulliam. You can also email the completed *pdf to [email protected] or mail them to 2302 Pulliam, San Angelo, Texas 76905.

Goes to show that our appraisals are too high. We don't have the sales tax revenue like other cities. The state sales tax reimbursement information is easily accessible. Look at our numbers compared to Abilene, Midland and Odessa. Ours is short by millions each month. To our elected and non elected officials. We Ain't Comparable. Get over it.
Look for the Abilene Big Country News article in how the increase in their hotel occupancy tax alone will yield the average homeowner 580.00 in savings in property tax.
