CHRISTOVAL – The Christoval Community Center was built in 1982 and is part of the Christoval Volunteer Fire Department and was in need of repairs and expansion. So a few years ago, CVFD Board Chair Jimmy Barton and other volunteers began raising money and designing plans to expand the well used facility which is at the heart of the historic and beautiful town of Christoval on the banks of the South Concho River just 20 miles south down US-277 from San Angelo.
The effort was successful and the group raised about $415,000 and with a lot of hard work from volunteers, the newly renovated and expanded Community Center was completed recently and a luncheon was held Friday to celebrate the re-opening.

The Christoval Community Center was expanded by 1200 sq. ft. and includes new commercial kitchen equipment, doors, windows, Audio-visual equipment, Heating and cooling, and new furnishings and fixtures.
Barton says the San Angelo Health Foundation provided almost half the funding through a grant along with funding from the Eva Camunez-Tucker Foundation.
Hundreds of Christoval residents and supporters also contributed financially.
The Christoval Community Center is used regularly by non-profit and educational organizations for free. Private individuals can rent the facility for a nominal fee.
