SAN ANGELO, TX — Blaine’s Pub, 10 W. Harris Ave., was abruptly closed yesterday due to a sewage backup in its rest rooms. Owner Cody Sturm thought the situation was insurmountable and announced that Blaine’s would be closed “until further notice. The notice sounded ominous as if San Angelo had permanently lost its storied Texas music venue.
Sturm said early Sunday afternoon that he was not sure if the sewage backup was a City of San Angelo sewer system problem or leakage on the Blaine’s Pub side. He was worried about the cost.
A quick call to the City of San Angelo preceded City crews arriving in force on a Sunday to investigate. They found the issue. Outside the pub’s building was a sewer stop causing the sewer to not flow as expected.
City of San Angelo Wastewater Collection personnel on Sunday, Jan. 29, broke up the stop to allow the sewer service to resume.
Blaine’s Pub was fixed!
Sturm has to rearrange the bartender and wait staff schedules. But as a joke, he posted on the Blaine’s Pub Facebook wall that “Uncle Eddie fixed the sh***ers” and that they will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at 7 a.m.
We give the City of San Angelo Wastewater Collection crew a huge shoutout! By going the extra mile and helping get Blaine’s Pub re-opened, employees will return to work sooner rather than later and the live music will continue almost uninterrupted.
The City’s Wastewater Collection crew has a call sign now, too: Uncle Eddie!
The sewage problem was fixed just in time, too. Texas music crooner Trenton Fletcher performs at Blaine's Pub on Friday night.
