San Angelo's UPS Tricks Workers in Fake Job Scam

SAN ANGELO, TX — The local UPS office advertised for temporary help on an online job board called Indeed. The office hired about 10 applicants but when the applicants arrived for work Monday morning, Nov. 21, the local manager told them there were no jobs.

One woman had to pay for an Uber to arrive by “Monday, November 21, 2022 at 7:50 a.m.” according to a hiring email she received from UPS.

“Now I’m out $20 and I really needed this job for Christmas,” she told us. We are keeping the names private to avoid retaliation by large employers and their corporate human resources departments.

The local UPS manager told the 10 hopeful new employees that the entire thing was basically a joke.

“They told us that corporate had outsourced the delivery of extra packages to another company but still hired us without telling the San Angelo office,” said another worker tricked by the corporate HR scheme. The hiring emails came from UPS’s San Antonio office.

The heartless act by UPS to make 10 San Angeloans think they had a job when they didn’t is indicative of today’s corporate human resources actions. When the workers asked why UPS would trick them like this, the local manager blamed someone else. No one at UPS took responsibility.

That means no one will reimburse that poor woman for her Uber trip either. Shame on UPS.
