SAN ANGELO, TX – Dozens of burrito lovers lined up outside of San Angelo's new Chipotle on Tuesday for the restaurant's opening day.
It was announced in Jan. 2022 that the burrito bar would be coming to the 3500 block of S. Jackson St. After just a short nine month the restaurant opened up their $300,000 building.
Doors opened up at 10:45 a.m. but before that a large crowd formed outside way before that. This is because the first 50 guests will receive free Chipotle merchandise.
Along with the crowds, the local non-profit Downtown San Angelo and San Angelo's Mayor Brenda Gunter attended the event to celebrate the grand opening. One thing in-particular that the group did to celebrate was to reveal their new fiberglass sheep statue.
"We are extremely happy to have Chipotle in San Angelo," said Executive Director of Downtown San Angelo Del Velasquez.
Mayor Gunter also showed her excitement about the burrito spot. "It's a great day for San Angelo, it's a great for our fleet of sheep, and we think it's going to be a great beginning for the family of Chipotle and their organization," said Mayor Gunter. "We welcome you, we welcome ewe (the sheep), and we your organization."
Chipotle is a Mexican grill that offers a variety of burritos, burrito bowls, salads and more. All of their items are made to order right in front of you. Their second location is currently being built in the former Taco Bueno building on Sherwood wy. The opening date for that is expected to be this winter.
