Divided County Commissioner's Court Considers Selling Beloved Coliseum

ODESSA – Ector County Commissioners Tuesday voted 3 to 2 to consider selling the Ector County Coliseum during their regular meeting.

The controversial move comes as an unidentified potential buyer made an offer on the decades old facility that is home to the Chuck Wagon Gang, the annual rodeo, the Permian Basin Fair & Expo and the Permian Basin Oil Show among many other events.

"Today's vote was simply to contract with Copper Key Realty since they have a buyer already lined up, just to enter negotiations and discussions about what that would look like," said Greg Simmons, longtime Precinct 2 Ector County Commissioner.

Several concerned citizens attended the meeting to voice their concerns about the possible sale.

"This is a very preliminary first step, and it may not go anywhere, but I think we owe it to the taxpayers to at least know," said Simmons. "We just need to know all our options before dismissing it."
