SAN ANGELO – San Angelo city officials announced progress on several street construction projects for July on Tuesday. One of the most anticipated projects is the reconstruction of N. Chadbourne St. from Loop 306 to 43rd St. which runs roughly from downtown San Angelo to near the San Angelo Coliseum and is a gateway for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for major events like the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo.
Street maintenance within the city suffered for decades because of decisions made by previous city councils and city managers. Over the past several years, the City Council and City Manager Daniel Valenzuela have committed to a ten year, $80 million street construction plan which began with MLK Blvd. and continued with Bell St., Southwest Blvd., College Hills Blvd. and now N. Chadbourne is on the list.
According to information released from the city this week, utility construction along N. Chadbourne has been complete and the estimated $4.7 million street reconstruction project is nearing the bid stage.
