Streets Construction Underway Near Convention Center as City Council Ponders New Street Use Fee Tuesday

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo City Council was set to hold a strategic meeting last Tuesday, May 24, Election Day to discuss a wide range of items.  One of those items was a new Street Use Fee as we reported earlier.

After our report of the public meeting planned for election day to discuss creating a $6.75 monthly fee for the privilege of using San Angelo streets to be tacked onto residential and business water bills, the meeting was moved from May 24 to Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 3 p.m.

Shortly after announcing the new meeting time and date at the McNease Convention Center on Rio Concho Dr., the city also announced streets near the convention center would be closed or reduced to one lane for construction beginning the same day, Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

According to the City of San Angelo, "Beginning Tuesday, May 31, Rio Concho Drive from west of the intersection of Rio Concho Drive and Bell Street to Roosevelt Street will be closed for paving. In addition, from Roosevelt to west of the intersection of Surber Drive and Rio Concho will be reduced to one lane. Citizens traveling to Rio Concho Drive may avoid the closure by accessing west Rio Concho via East Harris Avenue to Magdalen Street."

The strategic planning workshop includes presentations from staff on infrastructure, economic development and public safety.

The San Angelo City Council meets in special session Tuesday Afternoon at 3 p.m. May 31 in the McNease Convention Center.

The meeting is open to the public.
