WATCH: Today's Cost of Doing Business

SAN ANGELO – Gas prices are on the rise nationally and local businesses are dealing with the increased cost of simply trying to stay in business.

James Pettit, owner of San Angelo Limousine, is currently trying to come up with way to stay afloat with the current gas prices.

“As we go forward, we always tend to keep an eye on what’s going on with the energy source,” Pettit said, “We know that fuel cost are going to fluctuate, they go up, they go down. Normally it’s not in big increments as we’re seeing right now.”

On Tuesday, President Biden announced a ban on Russian energy imports including oil. Last year, the United States imported about 700,000 barrels of crude oil and petroleum products from Russia.

“What we’re seeing now is an exponential rise in cost. Fuel is going up. We’re looking at $110.00, $120.00 a barrel,” Pettit said, “A lot of things going on globally that are causing this.”

The war between Russia and Ukraine has kicked the price of oil and gas. Gas has hit an all-time high and is the highest cost since 2008 at $4.17 a gallon.

San Angelo Limousine is having to deal with the increase and is trying to balance the cost but keep their service price affordable.

Pettit said, “For us at San Angelo Limousine, one of the main things we don’t want to do is raise our rates. We want to be able to keep our rates the same for all of our clientele in the San Angelo and the surrounding area so we’ve decided that a fuel surcharge will kind of be the best bet for us moving forward.”

Gas is expected to keep rising over the next few weeks.
