There's One Clear Winner in the Chicken Sandwich War, But Is It the Best?

San Angelo, TX – The Chicken Sandwich War is being won by Popeye’s Chicken and McDonald’s according to surveys conducted in 2021.

The Chicken Sandwich War started in 2019 when Popeye’s clashed with Chick-Fil-A and debuted a limited time Chicken Sandwich that took over the nation and eventually made it a permanent menu item.

According to Placer.ai, a data intelligence platform, Popeye’s chicken sandwich took the top spot.

While Chick-Fil-A did not come in first, customers enjoyed their chicken sandwiches more than Popeye’s. A survey that took place from January until June of 2021 saw Chick-Fil-A score a 4.39 for their sandwich over Popeye’s 3.39.

McDonald’s got into the mix by giving you 3 choices: crispy, crispy deluxe, and spicy. McDonald’s kept up their momentum by adding digital ordering, delivery, and of course drive thru.

KFC and Burger King also released chicken sandwich entrees and even Taco Bell released a Chicken Sandwich Taco.  Their sales were boosted by the releases but dimmed as the year went on.

R.J. Hottovy, Placer.ai’s head of analytical research said, “Date suggests that chicken sandwiches continue to benefit quick service restaurants. Most chains are working to return to pre-pandemic foot traffic levels, but Popeyes remained well ahead of its 2019 visit trends in 2021.”

Who do you think won the Chicken Sandwich War?
