SAN ANGELO, TX – Construction of San Angelo's YMCA's new child development center is officially underway after the City of San Angelo's building department approved a $2.8 million permit.
The center will be located on the 2800 block of College Hills Blvd. near to the Red Arroyo walking trail. This facility will be will expand the preschool program the Y already offers by threefold.
"The Little Explorer's Preschool and Child Development Center will allow the Y to expand its preschool services by 200%. The current capacity of 30 children will expand to 96. The center will include 8 classrooms designed especially for children ages 3 - 5 years of age," stated Angel Flores, Executive Director for the YMCA of San Angelo.
"By expanding its preschool program, the Y will be able to provide more families with childcare that is quality and accessible to all. At the Y, we believe that all children deserve the same opportunity, regardless of one's ability to pay. The Y understands the importance of positive and meaningful early childhood experiences and how it increases the likelihood of success in later years."
Crews have already begun construction and Flores is filled with hope that the building will be ready to go before the start of the 2022 school year.
"The approval of the building permit puts the Y one step closer to its cause to strengthen communities. This project has been a dream for many leaders of the Y since the preschool's launch in 2013. Our staff and board of directors are excited to see the beautiful new facility that is scheduled to be completed late July to early August. But the real excitement comes when the doors open, and the facility is filled with children engaging in activity that focuses on the development of the whole child," continued Flores. "Through individual and corporate donations and grants from agencies like the United Way and the Mary Ellen Kent Bunyard Family foundation, the YMCA of San Angelo is able to break down financial barriers, providing financial assistance for families and individuals alike."
