SAN ANGELO, TX – A new and unique barber shop opened this past weekend in San Angelo near the Angelo State University Campus.
New Image Cuts, located at 2221 W. Avenue N., is operated by Denise Martinez. Also in the shop is another barber, Johan Marrero, and an eyebrow specialist Bre Pena.
Martinez has been in the beauty business for over five years. After moving from her hometown of Midland, she came to San Angelo in hopes of opening a salon of her own.
"I've always had a desire to start my own business," said Martinez. "When I moved here that was my initial plan but when COVID hit I had to give up because hair stylists became non-essential."
While the pandemic raged on Martinez kept working by cutting hair at Exclusive Barber Shop.
"I guess it just wasn't my time yet," said Martinez. "But a few months ago I felt that this was my chance."

"We plan to stand apart from other shops by the different types of services we provide," said Martinez. "Also we put a lot of time and thought into the environment here. I wanted it to be artsy and trendy."
New Image will offer services such as men's and women's haircuts, beard cuts, design cuts, braids, waxing, coloring, and even a cosmetic tattooing style called Lip Blushing.
"Lip blushing caught by eye just because how natural it can make you look," said Martinez. "You can wake up every day and look like you have makeup on."
