WATCH: Thousands Converge on Wall for Fun & Food at the 82nd Annual Fall Festival

WALL, TX – Thousands of area residents converged on the small farming community of Wall just east of San Angelo for the 82nd Annual St. Ambrose Fall Festival for food, fun and fund raising Sunday.

The annual event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the rural Roman Catholic Church.  It includes a full turkey & dressing meal with homemade German sausage and scrumptious desserts, games & bounce houses for the kiddos, a country store, bingo, plates to go and raw sausage sales.

It is estimated that some 3,000 to 5,000 meals were served in three hours Sunday.

See photos below:

St. Ambrose parishioners volunteer for the hundreds of hours it takes to put on the annual festival.  Workers cook the turkey and dressing and all the fixings as well as preparing all the home made desserts.

Volunteers also make the thousands of pounds of German sausage by hand for the dining room and to go meals and for sausage sales.

Other volunteers work the dining room, the auction, the games and booths and parking as well.

The auction consists of two parts; the cotton auction where buyers bid on bales of cotton, which is a popular crop raised in the fields in the Wall area, and the auction for donated items.

Many in attendance said they were glad to have the chance to visit with old friends and family after all the lock downs and modified or cancelled events because of the pandemic.

One of the most noticeable shifts this year was the line for to-go meals was longer than the line for dine in meals.  Some people standing in line for to-go plates said they were in line for 45 minutes to an hour while the line for dine in meals was not long.  Most people waited there less than ten minutes according to some of the attendees.

Either way, the mild weather and gathering with friends seems to have made the 82nd annual Wall Fall Festival a success.
