SAN ANGELO – The 63 year old lease between the City of San Angelo and the United States Air Force for the use of the Goodfellow Recreation Camp on Lake Nasworthy is expiring and City Council members will discuss its future during their regular meeting Thursday.
The lease to Goodfellow Air Force Base (AFB) for the Recreation Camp, originally executed on May 12, 1959, expires June 30, 2022. There are no further options to extend the lease.
According to COSA Parks & Recreation Director Carl White, Goodfellow AFB is proposing renewing the lease, year to year, with automatic annual extensions, not to continue later than June 30, 2031. The consideration for the lease would be at no cost other than "protection, care, and maintenance of the leased area."
White is recommending the council, " consider authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement and all related documents with the United States of America, acting by its Secretary of the Air Force (Goodfellow Air Force Base), for lease of the Goodfellow Recreation Camp at Lake Nasworthy (Carl White).
The San Angelo City Council meets at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, Sept. 9 at 8:30 a.m. in council chambers at the McNease Convention Center. The meeting is open to the public.
