Gov. Abbott Supports Permanent Alcohol To-Go Legislation

AUSTIN,TX – Back in March, Gov. Greg Abbott signed a waiver to allow alcohol to-go to help support small business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meant to end May 1st, the waiver was extended indefinitely and now Abbott and state representatives want to make it permanent.

Abbott tweeted “From what I hear from Texans, we may just let this keep on going forever.”

Tan Parker, a state representative from Flower Mound, will submit a bill in the legislative session that began on January 12th to allow the sales to continue.

Thursday evening, the Texas Restaurant Association, sent a proposal to Abbott’s office to allow mixed alcoholic drinks to be sold as well. Under TABC guidelines, liquor must be sold with food and still be sealed by the manufacturer.

Since the pandemic began, Texas restaurants have lost about $4.2 billion.

And since we're on the subject of relaxation of alcohol sales law, why not abolish the last remnants of the antiquated blue laws? Allow liquor sales on Sunday and allow beer and wine to be sold 24/7. I can't believe that those laws, imposed by religious zealots years ago, are still being imposed.

Since this is very nearly encouragement to drink and drive, can we have some legalization of pot next? Please?
