Ceremony Marks Milestone for Mathis Field Cafe

SAN ANGELO, TX –  The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the one year anniversary of new ownership at the Mathis Field Cafe.

As previously reported, on June 6, 2019, owners of the Mathis Field Cafe put a for sale sign up at the Chinese restaurant after more than 30 years of business. See: Mathis Field Cafe Now for Sale

The cafe, which is located inside the San Angelo Regional Airport terminal, was listed for $200,000 and included the name and merchandise inside. This deal did not come with the building as the City of San Angelo owns the building and leases space to vendors inside of the terminal.

After six months of the restaurant being on the market, brother and sister Debbie Champion and Abel Tarin decided to buy the restaurant and make their dream a reality.

They opened their doors in Jan. 2020. Little did they know what 2020 would mean for the restaurant businesses as shut downs loomed.

After the long year the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce congradulated the two for their hard work and success during the year.

Individuals at the ribbon cutting included CEO of the SACOC Walt Koenig, San Angelo Mayor Brenda Gunter, and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Compadres.
