SAN ANGELO, TX – If we learned anything in 2020 is not to believe everything you read on the San Angelo LIVE's Facebook comments.
Earlier today, on Jan. 5, San Angelo LIVE! reported that the Stripes convenience store at West Ave. N and S. Bryant had boarded up its windows and closed its doors. Here is the original story: Popular San Angelo Convenience Store Closes
Quickly following the story, Facebook commenters rumors began spreading. "I have heard it's going to be another McDonald's not sure that is true just what I have heard," said one commenter. This comment was answered with "Yeah that's what they told the workers there before shutting them down."
This rumor spread throughout the comment section and even outraged one person. "But you're not gonna mention that McDonald's bought the location?" the commenter wrote.
According to Eric Wilson, owner of the local San Angelo McDonald's franchise, no McDonald's will be put at the corner of West Ave. N and S. Bryant.
Wilson did however purchase the land. McDonald's will not build a restaurant there unless a McDonald's real estate company purchases the land from Wilson.
Wilson says he bought the corner lot "because it looked like a great location." He also said that he will be putting up a "for lease" sign soon hoping an entrepreneur will take a shot at thriving at the high traffic location.
