SAN ANGELO, TX — Noted trial lawyer Sam D. Sparks, 75, of San Angelo died August 31 following a heroic battle with Pancreatic cancer.
Sparks was active in the community and served as a Board Member of the San Angelo Independent School District. In 2006, he was selected as a Sul Ross Distinguished Alumnus. In 2011, he was inducted into the Sul Ross Athletic Hall of Honor. At that time, he was the only Sul Ross Alumnus to have been honored in both capacities.
Sam began his academic career at Kilgore Junior College and completed his bachelor’s degree at Sul Ross State University in Alpine in 1967. He earned his J.D., Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1970 at The University of Texas School of Law in Austin.
Sparks was a partner in the law firm of Webb, Stokes & Sparks, LLP and had been since 1972. He was a Board Certified Personal Injury Trial Lawyer and had a statewide reputation as a passionate advocate for his clients. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Bar Association, American Board of Trial Advocates and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association where he served as a Director for many years.
His partner, Max Parker was quoted as saying, “Sam was the prototype for a personal injury lawyer in Texas. He was physically and mentally larger than life and his clients knew his first thought was always for their best interest. He will be missed.”
