SAN ANGELO, TX – The City of San Angelo released their official report for building permits through the end of July and the numbers are showing a large increase in buidling construction activity despite the pandemic.
According to the report from the City Permits and Inspections Department, so far this year there are $94,935,557 in construction projects underway. Last year at this time the report only showed $67,483,190, a 41 percent increase.
This is due to the number of large commercial projects that are being built or have been built this year. A few of these projects include a $20,000,000 project at 5702 Melrose building a Multi-Family Housing Development, a $16,610,806 permit to Shannon to build the Shannon Rehab Hospital, and a $20,000,000 permit to build new apartments on 1825 W. Loop 306.
In the month on July alone there were 13 new commercial properties that had a total value of $13,653,700. Also in July, home builders have also asked for 92 permits to build new single family residences. The City charged $20,241 in permit fees for the nearly 100 new homes that are being built here in 2020.
Overall, 4,643 permits were issued since the beginning of 2020. In 2019 in total, 8,081 permits were issued bringing the total value of permits issued to $98,818,241. This is only around $4,000,000 more than San Angelo has seen in the first seven month of 2020.
